Luray Craftique

 

In order to better serve the rural community of Luray, in 2016 the Luray United Methodist Church established a local food pantry. This is a huge need in Luray, because we have many low-income residents, and the nearest grocery store is over 25 miles away.

 

The food pantry was initially funded by the Luray United Methodist Church, and has since relied on the donations of food and personal care items by the local and extended community.  The food pantry sponsors also organized the Luray Craftique, a community craft and antique fair. Attendees of the craft fair donate non-perishable food items or a small donation to help fund the food pantry throughout the year.  In 2018,  the proceeds of the Luray Craftique and donations by community members provided food for over 25 families in the community of Luray.   We are hoping that the proceeds of the Luray Craftique will provide for the needs of the Luray UMC Food Pantry for an entire year, just in time for the next Craftique to fill the shelves again.

In October of 2016, the craft fair brought around 32 vendors to the community of Luray and we have only grown since. In 2018 we had 156 vendor spaces and for 2019, over 165 registered in 210 booth spaces.  2020 was looking to be our best year ever, but we cancelled our event due to COVID restrictions, to help protect our community and visitors alike. 2021 picked right back up where we left off; another beautiful day full of vendors and customers.
